What a Fabulous Day!

John Hornbeck: A Storyteller with Purpose

So why "The Walking Scribe"? Well, to start with, I'm a writer.

I begin each morning with my Wakeup Walk. Not a long walk. Usually somewhere between a half mile and a mile. It is my way of waking up after an evening of sleep. It gets my body moving. My mind engaged. My soul opened up and ready for the day.

After that, I clear the decks of "stuff". You know, that miscellaneous stuff we need to do every morning. And about one hour into the morning, after the stuff is done, I get down to what for me is "the real stuff". I sit down at my writing desk and begin to pen for the day. Creating my first words. Every day. Without fail.

For some, that could sound like the most boring two-hour start to the day ever. For me, and for many writers, it is breathing. It is energy. It is creation. And it is the most exciting thing I could do. So join me on my journey.

Faith in the Face of Fear:

The Story of a WWII POW

Planned Release:  Nov/Dec of 2020

(Working Title)

This is my most recent work in progress. Roy Shenkel was my Father-in-Law. As a POW in World War II, he experienced starvation, solitary confinement, and brutality that defies imagination. This is his story. A story of how hope and faith helped him through an amazing struggle for survival.

When you rewrite, your main job is taking out all the things that are not the story."
